BAMIJI’s whole life was there responding to God. Everything spoken that evening appeared to be for him.
Like they were directed at him. Like the preacher felt he was there.
He felt no restrain nor caution. He was just all ready to try Jesus.
That is one way he hadn’t gone, since the day he sought means.
Yes, he’d found Jesus quite familiar – the Name he heard every Sunday in church.
The same he saw in the pages of Bible... to him, a study text on religion.
Jesus is the major character of the New Testament—he would say, so who wouldn’t know Jesus?
But right there in his humble place, he heard the Name again. He got a whole new sight of everything he’d known.
‘Jesus is the Way!’ he cried. ‘He is the Way I never tried!
‘The way out of my trouble, these burdens and battle! I’m sure He is the One!’
The 59-year-old was touched as he shed a tear.
He wished he’d heard the gospel before. But then he’d heard it and hadn’t grasped things those times.
Yet this time, he wanted it—and tried.
No he couldn’t dare to join the group during their program. He simply waited till the end, and went out to see the place.
He wanted to meet the organizers, then share his problems. He wanted answers that just Christ can give.
The elderly man got dressed, then trudged to the outreach ground.
The organizers were packing up amid volunteers from town.
The lights were being taken down; so Morrow walked there and asked for counsel.
Being a respectable old man, he was taken to meet the preacher.
The Reverend was equally an old man, so he talked candidly with Morrow.
He revealed to him what Jesus could do with him. That He could turn everything new, give him rest and future, too.
Bamiji surrendered his heart to Christ as Odu prayed for his salvation.
He suddenly found peace. Like a huge load rolled off his back.
He shed tears; felt so free, so lighthearted. He felt so new he wept.
Bamiji found rest where he didn’t know he would. For it was the first time he knew that God loved him.
He thought about himself, and wept that he was just knowing.
The elder took the preacher to his house, and Odu prayed for deliverance.
Joshua Morrow took out the magic papers he kept, the spells and everything else... and threw them all in fire.
He decided to follow Jesus all the way now.
That night, a 59-year-old Morrow waved yesterday bye.
He went all in as a disciple of Christ, and never looked back.
That night Joshua slept for the first time in adult years... as sound as a baby does.
Panic disappeared, weakness too. All demons left him alone.
It was 1984 October.
