IT was mid-day and the sun was just rising above the head. A few plantings and harvests had gone by and it was another year.
Morrow walked back in his house and announced he was there. He had been sent for from his hut at the farm village. He’d been gone for some time to check up on things.
Daleka and Oji were equally at their farms. So their wives had sent two grown sons to the farm to ask their in-law back.
They had news for Morrow.
So, just while the farmer walked back in the house, they told him how serious things were.
Morrow ran into the bedchamber, saw Oki with their little boy. Saw her cry as Dekomi laid weak in his bones.
The beautiful kid’s body burned hot like he’d caught a fever. But his joints and ankle got swollen, too, that it seemed this was no fever.
The little child ached and he couldn’t stand.
Now his father bowed low there and felt him. He asked if they’d treated him for fever; and they’d done so, but this was some new sort.
So Oki nodded and answered, ‘Let’s take him to Cottage!’ It was the name they called the clinic uptown.
Thus, Morrow and his wife took their son there. It was quite a long hike from downtown.
Oki backed the child and Morrow trudged by her. Then at a point the man took him up in arms. They walked beneath the jungle shade.
Now they arrived and the uptown clinic took the boy. They examined and diagnosed him.
So, they gave medications to manage the pain; then, told them things might get worse with time.
The fine-looking kid had developed rheumatism. He’d suddenly gone down with rheumatic fever, and might lose his walk in time.
It was tough news for his parents.
So, the news was all rain and water for the newly-made parents. As it dampened and saddened them.
Yes, they’d felt content with having this one kid, considering their long wait to have him.
But then here were their hopes crashing down in sand. Their good dreams, crippled and floored.
Morrow sighed plenty times, and Oki cried doubled it. They felt so hurt and sad.
Now they picked up their boy and headed home, as it was dark already.
The night was quite the starless one. It was to be a night to try their skies.
Even then, all night skies do turn to day for children of the Most High.
So even that night, light came visiting. And the day meant to stay dark suddenly broke.
Yes, the man called Future had the stars visiting. They landed quite big for his house to contain.
