Wanted Here – Ch.53 | KT OLLA

CARL got up from his seat, then he let out a sigh. And while the man stood, his wife bowed her head in thoughts.

“This is too much! This is just too much?” said Carl.

“What have these people become? How is it so fun to use their wits and brains this way? What exactly is their aim?”

The couple had just listened to the audio recording. They had heard it before when the voices weren’t quite audible.

But this time, Peter brought them the clearer audio to listen to. He invited them to his office at Pendulum Legal Bros, and made them listen.

It was biting cold that morning. So the legal counsel offered his clients some steaming coffee.

The couple sat at the guest area of Peter’s office and he played them the audio.

Carl and June heard the conversation at Lucius Barnabas’s murder. They heard the vicious threats and the way in which his captor planned to murder him.

They heard everything up till Marcuz left the scene. And what they heard broke their hearts.

“It is sad!” the lady spoke up. “It is really sad it got to this.

“Then again, I feel sorry for the boy. He just wanted to help, but he lost his life!”

June’s words came to Carl like some new light. So he settled down and asked their lawyer.

“Peter, tell me; how do we go forward? I’m not really bothered about this case. Like I am about how to not lose someone else.

“We can’t let Cannon find Marcuz. He’s right there in their camp. So what do we do, so no one else dies?”

Peter cleared his throat and sat up.

“This file is not enough evidence to nail psychomicide on Cannon. But it seems enough to indict their name with murder.

“But then, in actual fact, the file isn’t enough to nail Cannon with murder. The recording stopped before the boy was murdered!

“So, Cannon can still argue that the recording was just a conversation. That we have got no solid proof that it was one of theirs who killed Lucius.

“See, they could still hold on to the suicide claim if they want. Or just say that his killer wasn’t their person.

“That cleared, we may need Marcuz to witness in person. But again, that is not right.

“We will be putting another life in danger. And we still don’t know who the killer is, as of now.”

Carl and June settled back in their seats. It was dilemma, the way they saw this.

Peter came to their rescue right on.

“Here’s the good news. With this file, we can get the judge rule for a thorough investigation on Cannon University.

“We can get their voices analyzed and find the matching voice. Still this may take some time.

“Cannon will do everything to hide the killer. You know, the man whose voice we heard now.

“I know they will do anything to keep him, even if they have to give him a sabbatical.

“They can even fire him like he wasn’t theirs, to keep him safe!”

Peter’s news had turned sour. It didn’t sound like some good news anymore.

So June inquired, “But what should we do?”

He answered. “I thought really hard about it. I thought maybe we can use the media.

“But with or without them, the result will be the same. Cannon will be investigated.

“Our main question is, ‘Will the culprit be caught?’

“Then again, what happens to the real suit? How do we go on with psychomicide case?”

Carl spoke up. “I will not advise we use the media. The result might be worse.”

“What do you mean?” asked Peter.

“We started the psychomicide fight. Then, a young promising boy came up to testify; and now he’s dead. I fear the public opinion may be against us.

“A life is already lost and we keep crying, Psychomicide! The boy testified for us and not for Cannon. We have to take responsibility, and stop another murder!”

“You’re right, Darling!” sighed the woman. “You’re so right!”

“I came this far thinking justice would heal my wound. I thought of revenge, poetic justice… all sort of things!

“Then, when this young man died last year, I didn’t feel much concern. I was only bothered about his statement and the case.

“Looking back at everything now, I see I was becoming another Cannon in a bid to fight Cannon!”

Peter nodded and sighed.

June went on. “If we probe further and call for an open investigation on the school, they will not stay still…

“They will definitely find Marcuz López. And if they do, we may have another case of murder!

“So I ask myself: ‘With someone already dead, is this fight really worth it?’ But that’s not really the question anymore.

“The thing is I found Jesus Christ. And I realised my peace and comfort didn’t lie in poetic justice or the fall of Cannon.

“It’s all in Jesus Christ whom I found!

“We can’t go on with the weight of someone’s death on us. And we can’t allow another murder.

“If we found Marcuz, Cannon can too! So Darling, please... let’s drop the suit.”

Carl said the same words at the same time that June said them.

“Let’s drop the suit,” he said, too.

Now the couple laughed. Those words came so easy to Carl and June.

To them it was like saying, Let’s go back home. It was that easy.

But they had thrown the next punch. And they didn’t know.

MUSTARD I – Ch. 7 | KT OLLA

NOW it had rained all morning this day. And the sun was finally tearing through clouds to take the day’s glory. It was a brief break for the villages of Ede’s farmlands. As they rested from taking turns in harvesting yams. The town’s harvest season of yam and cassava tubers were in the rains... So they worked double to get them stored in barns and sold in markets – to avoid early rot in the wet weather. Yes, the crops were sources of flours and flakes for main foods. And several kinds of yam – like the ewùrà, ebòlò and the white yam, were also prepared as meals. So, everyone was out going about their own business those rest days... The farmers would go for a routine check on their farm every morning. And return earlier than the time to gather for talks by evening. Every evening, the men would sit under the shade of trees, and play board games amid talk and drinks. They’d talk about everything. From the ruler to their people. And to their wives and children. The young Moro chose to go a...

Knighted Again – Ch.13 | KT OLLA

MAQWELA caught the smile on Nile’s face as he turned back to him. He knew why the boy smiled, yet he liked him more. Those were some things of innocence that he missed. The king liked people who wouldn’t cower when he used power. Unlike how he’d tremble as a boy when his late father abused the right. Yes, he liked folks who still retained their peace as they grew. Like those cute youngsters listening to him. So the monarch resumed, but he preferred to go the earnest way. ‘Now like I said earlier, that nobody enters here except Maqwela passes them – you must also know that nobody hears the things I’ll be speaking now unless we tell them! ‘Now I know you’re smart enough to know what I said – and what I left unsaid!’ The duo braced up and gestured with a nod. They knew the weight of that sentence and were ready to keep the monarch’s secret. They knew they were about to hear a blast. And so they braced up for it. Right then the middle-aged heaved a deep breath, crossed his arms over his ch...

Sons of the Flaming Throne 2 – Ch. 9 | KT OLLA

ABISHUM wasn’t done speaking. So she picked up on the matter as things were bound to change. She spoke: ‘See, it was a bedroom cry for Aleph. But not until the day things were shoved in her face… ‘And that day she gave up on hoping! ‘Well, what Aleph thought was the reason why Beth couldn’t marry, was different from what it was with people. ‘She used to think it was because there was no man in her house to ask the daughter from. As is our customary practice in Israel.  ‘But when a drunken man shoved it in her face one night, it hurt her too much what people say. ‘“No one will marry your daughter, woman! Why will anyone do? When death hides in her bosom like it hid in yours. Or why did your husband die? ‘“Look, if you don’t know it – your family is cursed! You only have one child in a nation of plenty. ‘“God has prospered Israel with many children like the sea sand. But what do your family bear? Only one! ‘“So, who will want your cursed daughter for his son to love? You really don’t...
