NOW Peter Pedro wasn’t ready to lose another witness. He didn’t want to lose Marcuz to Cannon’s witch-hunting.
Yes, he knew that it would be a lot risky for Marcuz to witness in person. When he couldn’t still identify who the killer was.
The voice in the MP3 was still quite hazy and low. So the killer could be anyone around them all.
And since the young man didn’t know him, he wasn’t safe.
So, when asked about his new evidence, Peter told the court the stick was attached to a bicycle at the crime scene.
That his investigation team found it there.
The court accepted the evidence. They chose to send it to a government forensic body in the city against the next hearing.
They wanted their audio forensics department to analyze it. Wanted some sound separation done as well as voice analysis.
At the next session, they’d listen to the recording.
D.M.B. Barbar was so much taken aback. But even so, he didn’t sit back wondering. He objected and attempted a counter.
“Your Honor, this evidence wasn’t found by the police at the crime scene.
“Then, a suicide case has got nothing to do with Psychomicide!”
Pedro almost didn’t wait for the man to end his words, when he replied:
“We aren’t talking of a suicide case far away from us all, Your Honor. We are here talking about the last witness for the psychomicide case!
“He testified in court and a few days on, he was found dead at this same Cannon University.
“He did not even testify for himself. Else we might have said he experienced psychomicide and took to drugs.
“But no, Lucius Barnabas testified for a psychomicide victim. And the next moment he was gone!”
The courtroom rumbled with mumbles and sighs. But Peter wasn’t done.
“The late Barnabas was a top student. But the investigation said he was on drugs!
“Your Honor, these things don’t seem to add up. And so, I propose a further investigation into the case.”
Attorney Barbar objected to this point, and Peter Pedro stood his ground. Then in the end, the judge decided to question the police to find out more on the evidence.
The detective in charge of Lucius’s case was summoned.
The court put a call through his workplace during their recess, and he hastened there before the next session began.
When the man arrived, he confirmed that there was a bicycle at the crime scene, an old-looking one.
That his team had thought it to be one piece of junk tossed up there. And that they’d left it out of their search.
With this done, the judge proved that his acceptance of the new evidence was without prejudice.
Now it was a few minutes before noon and the case was adjourned. So Peter hurried to the defense team.
He was going to meet Professor Barbar, but the older man had seen him and hurried away.
Yet he wanted to pull more legs. So he went for this.
“Hello, professors!” he smiled at the group. “Good morning, sirs and ma’ams! I guess it isn’t too late to say good morning!”
The legal team looked at their watches and found his greetings off. They grumbled a response, and left one after another.
Peter walked back to his clients, laughing to himself.
“Nobody count eggs these days? Well, these eggs have hatched now!”
