Wanted Here – Ch.39 | KT OLLA

CARL was all smiles as he walked across his property to check on his wife where she did her analysis.

It was about noon on this cloudy Thursday...

And it had been about two weeks since June collected the test sample from the bicycle at Cannon. And had begun working on it.

Yet again she couldn’t work in a walled laboratory – or any conventional construct of it. For she still felt traumatized by the regular sense of laboratory work.

So Carl had put up a big tent for her in the backside of his large property.

He’d got an air purifier and ventilator equipped in the work center. Made them ready for use, in case she ran out of fresh air.

He knew she wasn’t fully well when he thought to provide all those. But now it was a different story.

June had been working every other day through those few weeks. And she didn’t break down, or even need to use some first aid.

She’d been covering a lot of ground with each work she did every day. So much her husband Carl couldn’t help blowing the horn...

As June was his triumph now. Not forensics.

He strode down the yard to see her, as he kept muttering:

“My June is back! She’s back for real!”

Yes, June Martinez was  getting better and better. And brighter every day, in fact.

She didn’t know that fortune could smile on her so much. She just leapt, damning the consequences.

She jumped when the grounds were unsure.

Yes, the scientist felt lucky. But this was more than mere luck.

She felt fortunate. And she was the most fortunate.

For a God who loved her kept her, even when the ground could fail.

A God called “Love,” who would do everything to win her heart.

So this day, His benevolence smiled on the young couple and showed them prospects...

For June finished her processes, and got a clear odor.

Carl came in front of the place just in time. He peeped inside to see June smiling wide.

The elated scientist turned to see her man at the door.

“It worked, honey! I got the odor. I got it, honey! Look, I got it!”

She was clearly all smiles.

A small wind blew at the time, so Carl couldn’t pick his wife’s words.

But he was pretty sure she was telling good news. So he cried his response:

“You’re done for today? Can I come in?”

“Oh come in, honey – you’re just on time!” she beckoned, beaming with joy.

Carl went in and was delighted to hear the news. As June showed him the work and explained her next steps.

By evening, Carl had thought to share the news with Pedro and do a little boasting.

He recalled how this lawyer friend of his saddled him, the client, with the task of getting their forensics done.

He recalled how he’d cajoled him to do his work by using June’s betterment.

Yes, he’d done the work now, he reasoned. And June had got a lot better.

But he really wanted to boast and taunt this man who’d got his wife doing his work.

So, while Lawyer Pedro was getting excited about the forensic results, and about June’s better health, Carl threw out a question that only him could answer.

“Peter, have you thought about how we can go on with the next step?

“I mean: How can we get the bicycle owner with his body smell with us?

“We can’t go sniffing people around, after all!”

Peter Pedro thought he knew.

“Of course, we use a trained dog! I’ll get one for you—

“It sniffs that stuff once, it fishes out our target! Then we move on!

“Tell me when we’re ready!”

Carl chuckled. “Peter, Cannon is a university! Did you ever see a dog roam around campus like any street in town?

“You schooled at Cannon, so did you see people take dogs around the campus?”

Peter got the point. “Oh that’s right. Nobody does that, really!

“After all, it’s university campus – not some downtown street!”

Then he asked, “So, man, what do we do now?”

Carl snapped back his answer.

“That’s the lawyer’s burden, my friend! You will have to find us a way.

“Think hard about it. Ask your colleagues at Pendulum if need be.

“I’m sure you’ll definitely find a way, Peter!”

Before Pedro could say a thing back, Carl dropped the call.

And then he smiled to himself. For June had told him the plan.

MUSTARD I – Ch. 7 | KT OLLA

NOW it had rained all morning this day. And the sun was finally tearing through clouds to take the day’s glory. It was a brief break for the villages of Ede’s farmlands. As they rested from taking turns in harvesting yams. The town’s harvest season of yam and cassava tubers were in the rains... So they worked double to get them stored in barns and sold in markets – to avoid early rot in the wet weather. Yes, the crops were sources of flours and flakes for main foods. And several kinds of yam – like the ewùrà, ebòlò and the white yam, were also prepared as meals. So, everyone was out going about their own business those rest days... The farmers would go for a routine check on their farm every morning. And return earlier than the time to gather for talks by evening. Every evening, the men would sit under the shade of trees, and play board games amid talk and drinks. They’d talk about everything. From the ruler to their people. And to their wives and children. The young Moro chose to go a...

Knighted Again – Ch.13 | KT OLLA

MAQWELA caught the smile on Nile’s face as he turned back to him. He knew why the boy smiled, yet he liked him more. Those were some things of innocence that he missed. The king liked people who wouldn’t cower when he used power. Unlike how he’d tremble as a boy when his late father abused the right. Yes, he liked folks who still retained their peace as they grew. Like those cute youngsters listening to him. So the monarch resumed, but he preferred to go the earnest way. ‘Now like I said earlier, that nobody enters here except Maqwela passes them – you must also know that nobody hears the things I’ll be speaking now unless we tell them! ‘Now I know you’re smart enough to know what I said – and what I left unsaid!’ The duo braced up and gestured with a nod. They knew the weight of that sentence and were ready to keep the monarch’s secret. They knew they were about to hear a blast. And so they braced up for it. Right then the middle-aged heaved a deep breath, crossed his arms over his ch...

Sons of the Flaming Throne 2 – Ch. 9 | KT OLLA

ABISHUM wasn’t done speaking. So she picked up on the matter as things were bound to change. She spoke: ‘See, it was a bedroom cry for Aleph. But not until the day things were shoved in her face… ‘And that day she gave up on hoping! ‘Well, what Aleph thought was the reason why Beth couldn’t marry, was different from what it was with people. ‘She used to think it was because there was no man in her house to ask the daughter from. As is our customary practice in Israel.  ‘But when a drunken man shoved it in her face one night, it hurt her too much what people say. ‘“No one will marry your daughter, woman! Why will anyone do? When death hides in her bosom like it hid in yours. Or why did your husband die? ‘“Look, if you don’t know it – your family is cursed! You only have one child in a nation of plenty. ‘“God has prospered Israel with many children like the sea sand. But what do your family bear? Only one! ‘“So, who will want your cursed daughter for his son to love? You really don’t...
