Wanted Here – Ch.30 | KT OLLA

WHEN June was cajoled to leave practice for theory that year, Carl had just finished setting up her home laboratory.

The laboratory structure he built behind their new home. He had just equipped the place.

So while he was just ready to set her up again, he realized his wife had lost interest in the work.

When Carl talked with her about it, he observed that June was always quoting a certain AT.

She’d say the man’s lines as though it was her creed. She used his words and made his claims her principles.

Carl saw what his wife was fast becoming. That she hardly had her own thoughts and did her own thing.

That she was quickly turning a zombie before him.

It suddenly dawned on him one day that June had been brainwashed...

That she’d lost her self and had been given another.

So before that week ran out, Mr. Martinez took a flight to Cannon University. He went to their chemistry department to report it.

There, he saw that his wife’s incident was no accident. Everyone in the department knew the case and defended it like they’d been waiting.

When Carl asked to meet the man AT, the departmental head replied that AT might have just been any lecturer.

That there were several people with the nickname in the faculty.

That man asked Carl to be specific. Then he started to list random names to confuse him.

Yet when Carl pinned on one person, he replied that that one was on a year leave. That he was on sabbatical.

Then he joked about everything.

“You see, we’re all AT here in Pure Chemistry!

“Everybody sees themselves basically as atoms. That’s what matter is made up of, after all!”

Carl was shocked at the man’s words. His wife was about losing it, but those lecturers were joking about it.

Right there he knew this was intentional. But he wasn’t giving up yet.

The bioengineer decided to report to the provost of their graduate school.

Now when he got there, his complaint wasn’t just laughed over. It was countered with another talk.

“I am glad I could finally speak to you,” the old lady said.

“You know I have wanted to meet you. But doesn’t it sound somehow, asking to meet an adult’s guardian?

“Well, I refer to you as her guardian, since you come down here to report for her.

“Now Mrs. Martinez is a different person from the June Simeon we all know.

“She is nothing like the genius we heard she is.

“I don’t know what exactly her problem is, but she made a mess with her work.

“I was told she started running 3 experiments for just one Ph.D.!

“Then she abandoned two, did one in half, and then abandoned it as well!

“She eventually took to theoretical work, and barely finished the thesis.

“I was told she needed help with just everything. Still she felt too big to admit she’s lacking!

“But she is the big name June Simeon! So we had no choice but to observe, ask whatever she wanted, and provide them.

“The laboratory we provided her was quite the state of the art. But how could we know she’d prefer theory?

“Well, Mr. Carl, if you will take it, then I’ll tell you point blank:

“June Simeon was done being her by the time we met her!”

Now Martinez couldn’t take it anymore...

The arrogance of those bullies. Even the insult. And salt rubbed on injury.

It was like beating him, then walking him over.

He boiled, he fumed, he yelled. But this was Cannon, and he’d just met her.

He met “civil beings” who knew no joy till they end joys...

Met people of the underworld putting on airs that could prove them angels.

He met their cupboard skeletons for the first time now.

So, Carl boiled so much he stormed out of the woman’s office. He realized a big evil had been done to his wife, and he cried.

He couldn’t return home, so he called his lawyer friend.

He shared the hefty load with him. And Peter shouldered it.

Peter Pedro went quite livid when he heard the story that he decided he’d pitch the case for Pendulum, his workplace.

He ensured that his bosses gave him the case to handle. So he filed a 200-page legal suit against the university.

Peter wanted much more than getting profit for Pendulum Legal Bros when he took the case. He wanted something bigger.

He wanted Cannon shut down and those professors jailed. He wanted Cannon to fall, too.

Yes, the man had been June’s fan since his younger years.

Everyone admired the shinning kid that had placed Jamaica in the spotlight.

But Peter wasn’t everyone. For he’d got a special liking and respect for the brilliant girl.

As a matter of fact, it was reports about June that had made him dream and hope to take strides in life.

So, he gave his best and did law at Cannon. He became a lawyer. And now he would defend his hero.

Therefore Peter Pedro had taken on the case for Pendulum Bros.

And this was how the battle began between Cannon and the Martinez.

MUSTARD I – Ch. 7 | KT OLLA

NOW it had rained all morning this day. And the sun was finally tearing through clouds to take the day’s glory. It was a brief break for the villages of Ede’s farmlands. As they rested from taking turns in harvesting yams. The town’s harvest season of yam and cassava tubers were in the rains... So they worked double to get them stored in barns and sold in markets – to avoid early rot in the wet weather. Yes, the crops were sources of flours and flakes for main foods. And several kinds of yam – like the ewùrà, ebòlò and the white yam, were also prepared as meals. So, everyone was out going about their own business those rest days... The farmers would go for a routine check on their farm every morning. And return earlier than the time to gather for talks by evening. Every evening, the men would sit under the shade of trees, and play board games amid talk and drinks. They’d talk about everything. From the ruler to their people. And to their wives and children. The young Moro chose to go a...

Sons of the Flaming Throne 2 – Ch. 9 | KT OLLA

ABISHUM wasn’t done speaking. So she picked up on the matter as things were bound to change. She spoke: ‘See, it was a bedroom cry for Aleph. But not until the day things were shoved in her face… ‘And that day she gave up on hoping! ‘Well, what Aleph thought was the reason why Beth couldn’t marry, was different from what it was with people. ‘She used to think it was because there was no man in her house to ask the daughter from. As is our customary practice in Israel.  ‘But when a drunken man shoved it in her face one night, it hurt her too much what people say. ‘“No one will marry your daughter, woman! Why will anyone do? When death hides in her bosom like it hid in yours. Or why did your husband die? ‘“Look, if you don’t know it – your family is cursed! You only have one child in a nation of plenty. ‘“God has prospered Israel with many children like the sea sand. But what do your family bear? Only one! ‘“So, who will want your cursed daughter for his son to love? You really don’t...

Knighted Again – Ch.13 | KT OLLA

MAQWELA caught the smile on Nile’s face as he turned back to him. He knew why the boy smiled, yet he liked him more. Those were some things of innocence that he missed. The king liked people who wouldn’t cower when he used power. Unlike how he’d tremble as a boy when his late father abused the right. Yes, he liked folks who still retained their peace as they grew. Like those cute youngsters listening to him. So the monarch resumed, but he preferred to go the earnest way. ‘Now like I said earlier, that nobody enters here except Maqwela passes them – you must also know that nobody hears the things I’ll be speaking now unless we tell them! ‘Now I know you’re smart enough to know what I said – and what I left unsaid!’ The duo braced up and gestured with a nod. They knew the weight of that sentence and were ready to keep the monarch’s secret. They knew they were about to hear a blast. And so they braced up for it. Right then the middle-aged heaved a deep breath, crossed his arms over his ch...
